FORT CAMPBELL, Ky (AP/WMOT) — The U.S. Army is looking for a few good psychiatrists. Fort Campbell says it has a number of unfilled mental health positions. The base is expanding its search for additional personnel.
Lt. Col. Marla Hemphill heads the Behavioral Health Department at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at the Fort. She says the base is looking for an additional 48 psychiatrists.
"A decade of war has put a lot of stress on our service members, especially for those who've been subjected to deploying multiple times. So I think we're seeing more dysfunction and more complications in the soldiers when they return to what we call the garrison environment, which is the home environment."
Hemphill says the Army is also ramping up efforts to help the families of deplored and returning soldiers, because those families are also suffering from deployment and post-deployment stress.
