Salvation Army Invites Community to 'Stand With Us' as We Rebuild the Family Thrift Store

The community can learn more about how it can support the Murfreesboro Salvation Army’s Family Thrift Store recovery efforts this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 10-12) by stopping by our information tent at the Uncle Dave Macon Days festival at historic Cannonsburgh Village.

We will have a hydration station at our tent with postcards detailing the many ways the community can “Stand With Us.”  We are thankful for the help we have received from the community so far and are confident that the fine people of this community will stand with us and help us to rebuild.

The Salvation Army plans to reopen the Family Thrift Store as soon as the remodeling is finished as long as there is enough donated merchandise to stock the store. Everything that is donated in this community supports the local Salvation Army operations including a 34-bed shelter that includes four private family rooms and a third shift workers sheltering program.

The Salvation Army is now accepting gently used items such as furniture, clothing, household items, books, and DVDs to rebuild the inventory for the Family Thrift Store at the Center for Hope location at 1137 W. Main St. Call 615-624-8213 for updated information.

The Salvation Army Family Thrift Store’s roof was torn off during the storms that produced high winds and heavy rain June 24.

“The damage was so severe. … We lost everything. Merchandise, store fixtures and equipment. All of it. Gone in one night. We estimate the loss of potential revenue to be more than $50,000,” Lt. Andy Seiler said.

The proceeds from the Family Thrift Store are used to support the Life Recovery Program at the Center of Hope Facility at 1137 W. Main St.

“The Family Thrift Store was not only a revenue source for our Life Recovery Program, it provided jobs for seven hard-to-employ, good people in our community,” Captain Monica Seiler said.
