WMOT-- a major public service of the College of Mass Communication & MTSU
WMOT passed its 38th anniversary mark on April 9, 2007. I've had the pleasure of being the director for about eighty percent of those years. After thirty-eight years in broadcasting – it’s time to do other things. Retirement will bring me more time to spend as a Boy Scout volunteer. Josie Rose, my Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog), has first dibs on much of my free time and Glenda, my good right-hand in life for decades, will have a few “honey-dos,” too. I wish to thank the WMOT crew for making my time here productive and fulfilling. All of them have been with me for years. My philosophy has been to hire good people and get out of their way. They've made me "look good" year after year. Each of you who have been loyal WMOT family members have made possible our effort to bring jazz to Middle Tennessee. Back in 1978, I began the market research that lead us to conclude that jazz was a desired music format and underrepresented in the Nashville market. Slowly we added to our music library and added more hours of jazz until we finally accomplished our goal of being a fulltime jazz station in 1982. Audience numbers grew and so did the financial support from you. This listener support will be the key to keeping "jazz alive" on the radio and Internet. I will be able to keep my current MTSU email address as a “parting gift to retirees” – so please keep me updated at jhigh@mtsu.edu.

Day-to-day, Interium Dean John Omachonu keeps his radio turned to Jazz89. He told us that he'd do that even if WMOT wasn't part of his "administrative duties"!
