Blue Raiders Look to Rebound from Tough 2011 Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (HUBBARD)  --  MTSU football will look to rebound from last year’s tough season when they take the field at Floyd Stadium Thursday tonight.

The Blue Raiders finished the 2011 season with a 2-10 record, giving up an average of 37 points a game.

Head coach Rick Stockstill shook things up in the spring when he brought in former SEC defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix to lend a hand.

Despite the defensive changes, starting quarterback Logan Kilgore says the offensive scheme will remain much the same.

Blue Raiders QB Scores Off-Field Honor

JACKSON, Tenn. (BEASLEY) -- Middle Tennessee signal caller Logan Kilgore has been named to the AFCA Good Works Team, one of the most highly coveted off-the-field honors.

This elite group represents the college football athletes who are committed to lending a helping hand in their communities. When Kilgore isn't busy orchestrating his offense, he often helps with the Special Olympics, and participates in the "Read Across America" program.

This years Good Works Team has one of the most impressive community service resumes in the programs 21 year existence.

MTSU Baseball Coach Peterson Retires

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Steve Peterson has retired after 25 seasons as head baseball coach at Middle Tennessee State University.

Peterson, who announced his retirement Thursday, compiled a 791-637-3 record with the Blue Raiders. His teams played in nine NCAA regional tourneys.

Jim McGuire, associate head coach, was named interim head coach.

Peterson also was head coach at Roane State Community College from 1979 to 1984.
