MTSU Researcher Weighs In On Immigration Debate

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  You’ve no doubt heard about the tarmac confrontation yesterday between the president and the governor of Arizona. That heated exchange reportedly centering on illegal immigration.

Immigration issues have figured prominently as well in the Republican presidential primary.

But Dr. Andrei Korobkov, a professor of political science at Middle Tennessee State University, says the current national debate ignores immigration realities on the ground.

Blue Raiders Continue Winning Streak

MOBILE,‭ ‬Ala.‭ (WMOT) ‬- The Blue Raider men’s‭ ‬and women’s‭ ‬basketball teams are on quite a roll.‭ ‬

The Lady Raiders extended their winning streak Saturday night to‭ ‬10‭ ‬games with a‭ ‬60-53‭ ‬victory over South Alabama at Mobile.‭  ‬

The men’s team‭ ‬also beat‭ ‬South Alabama.‭ ‬The‭ ‬68-47‭ ‬win gave the men their‭ ‬11th-straight victory to improve to‭ ‬19-2‭ ‬on the season,‭ ‬marking the best start in MTSU history.‭ ‬

The‭ ‬men's and women’s squads  remain the Sun Belt’s only undefeated teams.‭ ‬

Blue Raider Men and Women On a Roll

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  (WMOT) The Blue Raider men’s basketball team racked up its eighth straight victory last night, winning 70-59 over Florida International in Miami.

The men's team now sports a 16-2 overall record and is 5-0 in Sun Belt league action.

In their game against FIU, the Lady Raiders turned an eight-point halftime deficit into a 14-point win, rallying for a 74-60 victory last night. The MTSU ladies remain the lone team in the Sun Belt women’s basketball race with an unblemished record.

Gift Honors MT Sports Booster Jeff Hendrix

Million Dollar Gift to MTSU Athletics

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) – A big weekend on several fronts for Blue Raider sports.

The Middle Tennessee men’s basketball team beat UT Martin on Saturday evening 78-62 at home.

The Lady Raiders matched that win, outscoring Xavier to claim a 65-49 victory Friday night in Cincinnati.

That win made sweeter still as the MTSU head women’s basketball coach Rick Insell was named one of 10 inductees into the 2012 class of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  --  At the moment former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich appears to be leading other republican presidential contenders in the polls. I say “for the moment,” because by the time I finish writing these comments someone else may very well be the front runner.

A couple of my friends have noticed, with some chagrin, that everyone, including the media, seems to delight in attacking the front runners. The Japanese have a phrase for this sort of behavior: the nail that sticks up is the one that gets hammered down.

Herman Cain Visits MTSU Amid Controversy

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  --  Republican presidential primary candidate Herman Cain is fending off new allegations of marital infidelity as he prepares for an appearance here in Middle Tennessee.

Cain is scheduled to appear tomorrow evening at Middle Tennessee State University. The MTSU College of Business will host the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO as he speaks to students about turning the failing pizza chain around.

Team's Sixth Straight Post Season Appearance

MTSU Volleyball Headed to NCAA Tourney

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  It’s been a difficult fall for Middle Tennessee State sports, but one team has made into postseason play. 

For the sixth straight year, MTSU volleyball has earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Raiders had to sweat through the selection process before hearing their name called as an at-large pick.

Now, MTSU will travel to Knoxville for a first-round match on Thursday, taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes. The match will begin at 3:30 PM at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The winner will play again Friday against either Tennessee or Duke.
