NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — A new study calls for the majority of Tennessee’s teachers to be evaluated each year using less student test score data.

The report released Monday by the State Collaborative on Reforming Education, or SCORE, was commissioned by Gov. Bill Haslam to review the state's controversial new teacher evaluation system.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A bill that would restrict public access to Tennessee teacher evaluation data is headed for a full Senate vote.

The Senate State and Local Government Committee voted 7-0 Tuesday to advance the bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Jim Tracy of Shelbyville.

Tracy says his bill repairs an oversight in the original legislation governing the new system of teacher evaluations.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Gov. Bill Haslam says he’s looking to improve Tennessee students' proficiency scores by 20 percent over the next five years. Haslam says that kind of improvement would provide evidence that his education overhaul is working.

Education commissioner Kevin Huffman says assessment scores currently show that only 40 percent of Tennessee third graders rank as proficient in reading, while just 29 percent of seventh graders are proficient in math.
