WASHINGTON, DC (OSBORNE) -- Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander has again sided with Democrats to rebuke of President Donald Trump for diverting military funds to border wall construction.

Alexander and ten other Senate Republicans Wednesday joined 43 Democrats to pass a bill terminating President Trump’s emergency declaration authorizing diversion of the funding. Alexander voted in favor of the same legislation back in the spring, saying the congressional power of the purse must be protected.

“Our nation’s founders gave to Congress, a Congress elected by the people, the power to approve all spending so that the president would not have too much power.”

President Trump is expected to veto the bill as he did the version passed in the spring. Sponsors of the terminaton bill are six votes short of the 60 votes needed to override a presidential veto.

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn voted against the termination bill on both occassions. Blackburn insists a humanitarian crisis is underway at the border and she stands with the president on border security.

Ft. Campbell recently learned that just under $63 million earmarked for the construction of a new school for base children has been diverted to border wall construction.
