NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A blog post by a Nashville priest outlining his opposition to GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been viewed more than a million times and inspired what he calls “vile” responses.

The Tennessean quotes Anglican priest Thomas McKenzie of Church of the Redeemer saying he’s normally apolitical, but decided in late February he could no longer remain silent as Trump’s campaign gained momentum.

McKenzie penned a post for his personal blog entitled “This Isn’t Funny Anymore: Why I’m Voting Against Donald Trump.” He described the post as a wakeup call to Evangelical Christians voting for Trump.

McKenzie tells the newspaper that reaction to the post quickly turned personal and negative. He describes many of the emails he’s received as angry and hate-filled.

Russell Moore, the head of the Tennessee based Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics Commission and famed Christian author Max Lucado have also come out against Trump.

Trump’s candidacy is supported by some Christian leaders, including Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr.
