Another prominent member leaves the Nashville-based Southern Baptist Convention

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  One of the most prominent leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention has apparently broken ties with the Nashville based denomination.

Russell Moore recently resigned as the SBC’s chief ethicist. A recent news report sheds light on why he may have chosen to do so.

Last week Religion News Service published a scathing letter Moore wrote last year concerning the SBC’s governing body, the Executive Committee.

Moore berated the committee for what he considers their failure to properly address sexual abuse and racism within member churches.

Russell Moore has now taken a position with a non-SBC church, Immanuel Nashville in West Nashville.

Earlier this year, prominent SBC evangelist, author and bible teacher Beth Moore also ended her long association with the SBC, telling Religion News Service “I love so many Southern Baptist people, so many Southern Baptist churches, but I don’t identify with some of the things in our heritage that haven’t remained in the past.”

Moore also terminated her long-running relationship with Lifeway Christian Resources, the Nashville-based publishing arm of the SBC.
