NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Health officials on Monday afternoon reported eight COVID-19 related deaths across Tennessee over the past 24 hours. The health crisis has now claimed 32 lives statewide.
There are now 2,845 confirmed coronavirus infections in Tennessee, up 162 cases in one day. A total of 263 individuals are hospitalized statewide. Some 220 Tennesseans have recovered from the illness.
Metro Nashville reported an additional death Monday morning. Six city residents have now died due to COVID-19 complications. The city says there are now 785 coronavirus infections across Metro, up 112 cases in the past 24 hours. Officials say 20 people are hospitalized. More than 90 have now recovered.
Metro Nashville hasupdated its emergency “Safer At Home” order. The revised directive adds to the list of non-essential businesses prohibited from operating during the pandemic. It also provides additional guidance for essential businesses that remain open.
Just one example, grocers have now been ordered to limit occupancy in their stores to the number of customers that can maintain “social distancing protocols at one time.” The order concludes Metro will use “all available enforcement options to ensure compliance.”
Tennessee’s school children, forced to shelter at home by the pandemic, will not be required to take the usual end-of-year standardized tests. The state Department of Education has received a waiver from the federal government eliminating “statewide assessment, accountability, and reporting requirements in ...Elementary and Secondary Education” for the current school year.
