NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Gov. Bill Lee promised more information Thursday about what he’s calling Tennessee’s health crisis “surge planning.”
Lee told reporters Wednesday the state expects the coronavirus outbreak to peak in Tennessee mid-April. The governor says plans are being drawn up for “thousands of additional hospital beds in every major city.”
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is assisting Tennessee's emergency Unified Command and health care providers with the planning.
COVID-19 surge forecasts for Tennessee are grim. Modeling by the University of Washington suggests the state will likely need twice as many hospital beds and three times more ICU beds than are currently available.
