NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- The group NoTax4Nash has followed through on its threat to start recall petitions for Mayor John Cooper and City Council members who voted for an dramatically increased property tax.
NoTax4Nash has placed recall petitions for Mayor Cooper and 32 council members who voted in favor of the property tax increase.
The group lobbied hard to prevent new property taxes from being enacted. But council last week approved a 34 percent increase, with members who voted in favor saying the city’s pandemic battered finances gave them little choice.
The NoTax4Nash recall petitions say passage of the tax was a “dereliction of duty,” especially during “a time of financial crisis when people are economically devastated.”
