Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at WMOT. Listen for a special hour of mama themed music at 12pm CT on Sunday that spans the decades and the sentiments.

There are a couple of new gifts in the set, as both Willie Nelson and Gillian Welch have graced us with songs for the day. Gillian has released “Happy Mother’s Day.” Gillian said, “We can’t always be with the ones we love, but that can’t stop us from saying ‘I love you. I wrote this song one May when I was far away and couldn’t be with my mom on Mother’s Day. Then I called and sang it into her answering machine when I knew everybody’d be sitting down to eat. Here is the original home demo for the song, recorded on a portable reel to reel.” Willie Nelson’s entry for Mother's Day is "I'm The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised" from his forthcoming First Rose of Spring album. It was written by Wayne Kemp, Bobby Borchers, and Mack Vickery, and Johnny Paycheck had a top ten hit with it in 1977. Enjoy!
