NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- Here’s a suggestion if you’re looking for a place to volunteer on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The group Hands On Nashville has service opportunities with about 100 local organizations listed on its website.
In recent years, MLK Day has morphed into an annual opportunity to perform some type of community service. Jessica Moog speaks for Hands on Nashville.
“The direct link is HON.org/calendar. You can see everything that our partners have listed and just kind of browse what works for your schedule, get a sense of how you might be able to fit volunteering into your daily routine.”
You can search by type of service, location, organization, time of day and length of commitment. Moog says Hands on Nashville can connect both individuals and large groups with service opportunities.
On a related note, Hands On Nashville is accepting nominations for its 32nd annual Mary Kathryn Strobel Awards. Jessica Moog says the awards are Middle Tennessee’s largest annual celebration of volunteerism.
“If you have a person in your life who is a dedicated volunteer, no matter where they serve or what they do, we encourage you to nominate them for an award on one of the few different categories that we have.”
Awards categories include capacity building, civic volunteers, corporate volunteers, and direct service volunteers.
For either the Strobel Awards or the MLK Day volunteer opportunities, the Hands On Nashville website once again is HON.org.
