Mayor Cooper calls sex abuse allegations within MNPD ranks 'deeply concerning'

Mayor John Cooper (Twitter)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Nashville Mayor John Cooper has forwarded several allegations of sexual assault and harassment within the Metro Police Department to the District Attorney and Metro Human Resources for independent investigation.

Mayor Cooper initially responded to the complaints by saying he wasn’t aware of them. In social media posts Monday, Cooper now says he’s read the complaints and finds them “deeply concerning.”

The allegations were brought to public attention by Greta McClain with the advocacy group Silent No Longer. The mayor spoke with McClain Monday and says he thanked her for “bringing the allegations forward.”

Cooper went on to post that he hopes the individuals making the allegations will come forward to “share more information so an independent review comes to a just conclusion.”
