MNPS lauches search for permanent schools director

MNPS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The Metro Nashville Public Schools Board has launched the search for a new Director.

Former Director Dr. Shawn Joseph resigned last spring in response to several ongoing controversies. Last night the School Board voted to begin the search for a permanent Director.

Council Chair Anna Shepherd tells WMOT the system needs to fill several high profile positions. She worries highly qualified candidates might hesitate to accept a Nashville offer if a permanent director isn’t in place.

“They might be thinking in the back of their minds, ‘Uhh! Well, it says interim, do I have any guarantee that I’ll be reporting to the same person in six months as I will be today.’”

Shepherd says the Tennessee School Boards Association will conduct the director search.

Dr. Adrienne Battle is currently serving as Interim Director. Dr. Battle has made clear she intends to apply for the permanent post.
