More than half of young parents resistant to COVID-19 immunizations for their children

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) — Vanderbilt researchers have co-authored a new study that suggests more than half of all American parents 35-years-old and under will not have their children vaccinated against COVID-19.

Some 52 percent of parents between the ages of 18 and 35 told surveyors they did not plan to have their children immunized against COVID-19. Parents with lower levels of income and education were the most likely to say they would decline vaccination.

The report found that parents older than 35 were far more likely to say they would have their children immunized.

The study’s authors noted that “Parents’ willingness to vaccinate themselves and their children against COVID-19 will be vital to preventing community-wide spread of coronavirus, once a vaccine becomes available,”

The study involved just over a thousand parents nationwide.
