MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- Veteran mid-state political analyst Kent Syler is calling the launch of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump “risky business” for Democrats.

Syler teaches Political Science at Middle Tennessee State University and has been immersed in Tennessee politics for nearly four decades. Professor Syler says Tennessee’s deep-red Republicans will take a lot of convincing.

“And, you know, that’s a heavy lift. That’s a tough task, especially when the issues tend to be so complicated.”

As for Tennessee’s largely Republican congressional delegation, Syler says the only way they’ll abandon the president is if Trump does eventually lose the support of Republican voters.
