Nashville based Baptist leader urges Pres. Trump to resign

Dr. Russell Moore

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  A prominent, Nashville-based Christian Evangelical leader is calling on Donald Trump to resign following last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Dr. Russell Moore heads the influential Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. He has been one of the few evangelical leaders to consistently question President Donald Trump’s actions during his term in office.

In a Twitter post made this week, Moore addressed the president saying, “People are dead. The Capitol is ransacked. ...Please step down and let our country heal.”

Moore followed up with a lengthy blog post in which he challenges fellow Christians for their continuing support of the president, especially those who have defended Trump’s part in last week’s attack on the Capitol.

Moore wrote the post saying he was aware that it could cost him his position in the Southern Baptist Convention
