Nashville City Council approves deal to let Oracle build $1.2 billion campus on Nashville riverfront

Oracle

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Nashville City Council has approved a $1.2 billion deal allowing technology giant Oracle to build a regional hub in downtown Nashville.

Officials say it’s the biggest commercial development deal in Tennessee history.

WTVF reports that Tuesday night’s council vote green lighting the project was unanimous.

The deal faces one additional hurdle before construction can begin this summer. A zoning hearing on the property will include a community comment session.

Mayor John Cooper says the deal won’t cost Metro taxpayers a dime. Oracle will get a 50 percent break on taxes, but in exchange will pay for $175 million for infrastructure upgrades downtown.

Several community groups oppose the deal citing issues of transparency, the speed at which the deal has moved, and gentrification.
