Sealed Vanderbilt rape trial documents leaked to ABC 20/20

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A new wrinkle in the Vanderbilt rape trail.

Over the weekend, the ABC news magazine 20/20 aired surveillance video and interrogation tapes the presiding judge sealed in the case.

According to WSMV-TV, the story, which aired Friday night, included previously unreleased videos, photos, and other materials that Judge Monte Watkins had ordered should not be released to the public.

A coalition of local media outlets in Tennessee have pursued a lawsuit for months trying to gain access to much of the material aired by ABC. That lawsuit is now waiting to be heard by the state Supreme Court.

Metro Police, prosecutors and at least one defense attorney have all denied leaking the material to ABC. Metro Police say they will investigate.

Two of four defendants charged in the case were convicted this past week of rape and related charges. Two more are awaiting trial.
