TENNESSEE 2020: Gun control advocates target gun thefts from vehicles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- The Tennessee Legislature gavels back into session Tuesday. WMOT is spending the month exploring the legislative priorities across the political spectrum.

Today we talk to the Tennessee Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Spokesperson Cathleen Chandler says the group will support an initiative to punish gun owners who have their weapons stolen out of their cars.

“From 2016 to 2017, there was an 85 percent increase in guns stolen from cars and trucks statewide, and in cities those numbers are even higher.”

Chandler says Gun Sense will again this year oppose a bill that would allow guns to be carried anywhere, anytime, without regulation. She says surveys show Tennesseans strongly support common sense gun permitting and background checks.
