Tennessee Congressional Rep. votes to hold AG Barr in contempt

WASHINGTON, DC (OSBORNE) -- West Tennessee Congressional Rep. Steve Cohen was one of 24 Democrats voting Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr in Contempt of Congress.

Cohen sits on the House Judiciary Committee that’s asking Barr to provide it with an unredacted copy of the Mueller Report.

Cohen said Barr’s failure to hand over the report, or appear before the committee, sets a frightening precedent.

“We’re afraid of the loss of the rule of law. We’re afraid of the loss of the power of Congress to be an independent and co-equal branch of government. We face that today if we don’t stand up.”

Ranking Republican committee member Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia countered Democrats were angry the Mueller Report found no evidence of collusion. He said the House majority wants to punish the AG for launching his own investigation into alleged overreach by federal investigators.
