MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- For the second day in a row the Murfreesboro Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire.
MFRD reports it responded to a fire in a building on Old Salem Road occupied by Mayday Brewery and Experience Community Church. The building’s fire and burglar alarms had both been tripped.
Fire crews discovered two small fires burning inside and the sprinkler system had been activated. A press statement says crews found a gas can near the fires and that they appear to have been “set.” Damage was minimal.
The Murfreesboro Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze, as well as a Sunday night fire in a duplex home on Center Point Drive near Middle Tennessee State. MFRD is calling that earlier fire “suspicious.”
At the end of April, the Star Auto dealership on South Church Street was the target of an arsonist. Two vehicles and the dealership office were damaged in that blaze. No arrests have been made in the case.
Murfreesboro Police reported 8 cases of arson in the city last year, 9 cases in 2013.
