MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- After surviving several difficult years, the Nashville Symphony had reason to celebrate Tuesday afternoon as it released its 20th recording of American music on the Naxos music label.
The new release includes three world premiere recordings by award winning American composer Richard Danielpour:Darkness in the Ancient Valley, Lacrimae Beati and A Woman’s Life.
The Nashville Symphony’s partnership with the Naxos label has proven productive. Together they’ve had 14 recordings nominated for Grammys in recent years, and won seven.
Symphony CEO Alan Valentine said the orchestra has made the music of American composers like Danielpour a priority, something he sees as a perfect fit for Music City.
“Nashville is a place where lots of uniquely American music is created and celebrated and exported to the world, and here at the symphony we’re kind of doing our part – of course in the orchestral music realm.”
The Symphony is hosting a launch party for the new release Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Renowned soprano Angela Brown will be on hand to reprise Danielpour music she performed with the symphony for the new recording.
Valentine says the recording will be available immediately online at naxos.com, Itunes, Amazon, and soon at the symphony store.
