NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Nashville has made significant progress in its battle against coronavirus in recent weeks.

Metro reported a total of 938 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week. Compare that to one month ago when the city reported just under 2,600 new infections during the week ending July 24. That’s a 63 percent improvement.

The number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 is also a key metric.  Metro hospitals on Monday reported 136 COVID-19 patients under care. One month ago there were 222 patients in area hospitals due to coronavirus. That’s a drop of 38 percent.

Nashville health officials say there’s still a ways to go. Four of the city’s eight dashboard metrics are still unacceptably high.
