COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A trial date has been set for a Republican state lawmaker charged with stealing an opponent's yard signs before this month's primary election.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/2bx8IAf ) that state Rep. Curry Todd of Collierville has been scheduled to stand trial on Oct. 11 on the misdemeanor charge.
Todd was one of two legislative Republican incumbents to lose their primaries. The other was Republican Rep. Jeremy Durham, who had suspended his campaign after the attorney general released a report detailing allegations of improper sexual interactions with 22 women.
Todd was jailed in the days before the Aug. 4 vote, but was bailed out by challenger Mark Lovell, who went on the win the nomination.
Todd, a former Memphis police officer, said he had permission to remove the signs.
