Volunteer opportunities for Tennessee Promise scholars

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — If you’re a graduating high school senior looking for a place to perform your required Tennessee Promise volunteer service hours, here’s a suggestion.

All 56 Tennessee state parks and natural areas will offer volunteer opportunities later this month. The student volunteers can clear brush, limbs and invasive plants; plant flowers; build trails; assist with community events; or maintain historic features.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation says the projects are scheduled for Saturday, July 23.

Tennessee Promise provides recent high school grads with two years of tuition-free community and technical college education. Tennessee Promise students are required to complete eight hours of community service by Aug. 1.
