The Supreme Court considers arguments on the legality of using marijuana for health reasons. The federal government is seeking to prosecute two California women who grow and use marijuana under medical supervision. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports.

Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat Dies in Paris
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died Thursday in a French hospital at age 75. Arafat helped found the Palestine Liberation Organization and dedicated much of his life to fighting for an independent Palestinian homeland. Arafat's funeral will be held Friday in Egypt. He'll be buried Saturday in Ramallah. Hear NPR's Jennifer Ludden.

Ukraine announced that all women, children and elderly had been evacuated from a steel plant, a key Russian war objective that has long been under siege.
U.N. Report Calls for Expanded Security Council
A new report commissioned by U.N Secretary General Kofi Annan calls for the expansion of the Security Council. The report also sets out criteria for the use of force, and encourages the Security Council to consider preventive action to deal with latent threats. NPR's Michele Kelemen reports.

High Court Upholds Damage Cap on Loan Agreements
In an 8-1 ruling, the Supreme Court upholds the $1,000 damage limit under the federal Truth in Lending Act. The case involved a man who was misled while arranging a car loan. NBA Players, Fans Charged in Brawl
Five NBA players and several fans involved in last month's fight at the Detroit Pistons-Indiana Pacers game are charged by the prosecutor in suburban Detroit. Most are charged with misdemeanor assault and battery. One is charged with a felony. Jerome Vaughn of Detroit Public Radio reports.
