Germany faces weeks of political uncertainty following the inconclusive results of Sunday's elections. The opposition Christian Democrats, led by Angela Merkel, failed to win a clear majority. The current chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder, says he can form a government, and has refused to step down.

Saddam Tribunal to Resume Next Week
The trial of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and seven co-defendants on charges of crimes against humanity resumed briefly in Baghdad Monday. The judge then adjourned the trial until Dec. 5 so the defense team can replace lawyers who have been murdered.

Probe Under Way in Fatal N.Y. Boating Accident
Transportation safety officials have begun searching for clues in the sinking of a tour boat in upstate New York's Lake George. The Ethan Allen apparently listed suddenly -- possibly caused by the wake of a larger boat -- before it capsized Sunday, killing 20. Brian Mann from North Country Public Radio reports.

The Department of Energy has been quietly working on a grand plan for nuclear power to be included in next year's budget. Ideas for the Global Nuclear Energy Initiative include reprocessing nuclear fuel so it can be re-used in reactors -- a process the United States abandoned earlier.
