New Reports of Abuse in Iraq Detention Centers
Reports surface of another Iraqi Interior Ministry detention center where inmates were reportedly subject to abuse. Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said 13 of the 625 inmates at the center required medical treatment, but he gave no details. A similar case came to light last month.

Crips Co-Founder Williams Put to Death
Stanley Tookie Williams, a co-founder of the Crips gang, dies by lethal injection at San Quentin prison, where spent the last 25 years of his life. Supporters said the convicted killer was a changed man who worked from behind bars to end gang violence.
New Video Surfaces of Iraq Hostages
Al Jazeera airs a video, dated Jan. 21, of four Western peace activists who were kidnapped in Iraq in November. With the tape comes a threat to kill the four if all Iraqi prisoners are not freed.
Risk of Depression Relapse High During Pregnancy
Women with a history of major depression who stop taking their medication during pregnancy have a high likelihood of relapse. A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association counters earlier thinking that pregnancy protects women from depression.

Study: 35 Percent of Iraq Vets Seek Mental Care
A new study shows that 35 percent of troops returning from Iraq are seeking help for mental-health issues. Most of the problems are easily treatable, but more than one in 10 soldiers are diagnosed with a serious mental illness such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety or depression.

Bush Makes Surprise Stop in Afghanistan
At the start of his South Asia tour, President Bush makes an unscheduled stop in Afghanistan, where he meets with President Hamid Karzai and delivers a pep talk to U.S. soldiers at an airbase outside the capital, Kabul. The president is now in India.
