DeLay Not Contrite over Ethics Panel Rebuke
Admonished by the House Ethics Committee for the second time in a week, Rep. Tom DeLay responds by thanking the committee for "dismissing" the charges against him. While one charge was deferred, none were dismissed. DeLay offered no explanation of his response. NPR's Andrea Seabrook reports.

Western Leaders Debate EU Membership for Turkey
In Brussels, European leaders reach an agreement to begin talks next year that could eventually allow Turkey to join the E.U. Western leaders insist that Turkey move toward normalizing relations with the island of Cyprus. Turkish troops have occupied the northern part of the island for decades. U.N. Security Council Meets on Sudan
The Security Council temporarily moves to Kenya to deliberate on possible solutions to the 21-year-long civil war in Sudan. An estimated 2 million people have died since the war began in 1983. The council will also discuss the continuing crisis in the Darfur region. Hear NPR's Jason Beaubien.

NASA Scramjet Sets a New Air-Speed Record
A NASA research jet sets a new air-speed record for air-breathing engines by traveling nearly 7,000 mph, or 10 times the speed of sound. After its release from beneath the larger craft's wing, a booster rocket ignited, sending the X-43A on its way. NPR's David Kestenbaum reports.

Newsweek apologizes to victims of deadly protests in Afghanistan and acknowledges reporting errors in a May 9 report that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay desecrated the Quran. The magazine has acknowledged some reporting errors in the item.

When a driver experienced a medical episode and was drifting into an intersection, people around her sprang into action and saved everyone on the road from a potentially life-threatening crash.
After decades of wartime neutrality, Finland now wants to join NATO without delay
The announcement was widely expected and has broad support in the country: A recent poll showed that about three-quarters of all Finns support joining the military alliance.
