'Newsweek' Retracts Story Alleging Quran Abuse
Newsweek has retracted a story from its May 9 issue that set off deadly riots in Afghanistan and other Islamic countries. The item alleged that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay put a copy of the Quran into the toilet while questioning prisoners. Newsweek attributed the story to an unnamed source at the Pentagon.

Iran Threatens Retaliation on Nuclear Vote
Iran is threatening to use trade and oil supplies as weapons against countries that voted against Tehran at a recent meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA approved a resolution referring Iran's suspect nuclear program to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.

Bali Bombers Tied to Jamaah Islamiyah
The Indonesian resort island of Bali is still reeling from the second major terrorist attack in three years. The death toll is at 26, with more than 100 wounded. In 2002, blasts blamed on the Islamic militant group Jamaah Islamiyah took 202 lives.

Rehnquist Says He Has No Plans to Retire
Chief Justice William Rehnquist issues a statement that he is not planning to announce his retirement, and he will stay on the Court as long as his health allows. The 80-year-old chief justice was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last October. He was released Thursday from a Virginia hospital after being treated for fever.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair meets with Muslim leaders in Britain, as his cabinet considers new legislation for combating terrorism. The four chief suspects in the London attacks were all British Muslims. Blair is looking for new ways to keep young Britons from what he has called the "evil ideology" of Islamist extremism.
