MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The Weather Service says this past month was the coldest January the mid-state has experienced in about 30 years.
Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee was especially hard hit by the cold weather. Goodwill’s Jamie Berry says donations were off by about 10 percent.
“Ninety-eight percent of Goodwill’s revenue comes from those donated items, so that’s what we rely on to keep the wheels turning and we know that the community here always supports us and will continue to do so.”
Berry says Goodwill is especially in need of clothing, shoes and household goods.
To help get donations back on track, Goodwill has extended donation hours. Donation centers will temporarily be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., including at the three Murfreesboro locations.
