MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- For the second time in a week a small gang of attackers has assaulted a resident walking along a Murfreesboro street.
In a statement to Murfreesboro Police, 52-year-old Marvin L. Vaughn says he was walking along Reid Avenue Monday evening when he was attacked without warning by 6 black males and several black females.
Last Tuesday, 24-year-old Dustin Heath told police he was attacked by a group of six or seven black males while walking along W. Northfield Blvd.
Heath told police he believed the men were members of the Vice Lord’s street gang. Both men reported having items stolen during the assaults.
Last fall, Special Agent Michael Knight with Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told WMOT that the federal agency would be partnering with the Murfreesboro Police Department to investigate gang activity in the area.
“The ATF, along with the Murfreesboro Police Department, is beginning a gang initiative focusing on the Gangster Disciples and Vice Lords street gangs. And this gang initiative will focus on the firearms aspect as well as on narcotics trafficking.”
Knight said the Murfreesboro initiative was part of a larger, regional effort to reduce gang activity here in the mid-state.
