Murf. Asst. Fire Marshall says Sunday night fire "intentionally set"

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Murfreesboro Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a weekend fire in a duplex home just north of the Middle Tennessee State campus.

The fire at 1561 Center Point Drive in The Cove apartment complex was reported at around 6 p.m. Sunday evening. MFRD is calling the fire “suspicious.”

Two engines and a rescue unit responded to the incident. Arriving on scene they found a small fire on the floor of the den in the home. The flames were quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

At the end of April, the Star Auto dealership on South Church Street was the target of an arsonist. Two vehicles and the dealership office were damaged in that blaze. No arrests have been made in the case.

Following his initial look at the property Sunday evening, Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas commented “It was clear that the fire was intentionally set.”

Murfreesboro Police reported 8 cases of arson in the city last year, 9 cases in 2013.
