MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Students and fans on both sides of the field during Friday night’s Siegel and Oakland High football game honored former Siegel student-athlete Mason Loupe.
Loupe was found August 29 lying on his bed in his Overhill Ct. home with a single gunshot wound to the head. Loupe died on Wednesday. Police have said they don’t suspect foul play in the 15-year-old boy’s death.
The Daily News Journal reports Loupe was honored throughout Friday night’s game between Siegel High where he was a freshman and Oakland where he attended Middle School.
Players on both sides of the ball wore 22, Loupe’s football jersey number, on their shirts or helmets. The number could also be seen on shirts and signs in both stands.
Masan Loupe’s mother, Melanie, took to the field during a special ceremony to honor her son. She thanked the community for recognizing Mason and told the crowd she was “blown away” by their support.
Mason Loupe’s funeral is scheduled for this Saturday. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at New Vision Baptist Church. A public ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.
