NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  The Tennessee Department of Labor has recorded the lowest number of new unemployment claims since the coronavirus outbreak began.

Just under 11,700 Tennesseans filed initial jobless applications in the week that ended Aug. 1. That’s down 39 percent from the previous week’s claims.

The state also recorded the lowest number of continuing unemployment applications since early April. This past week, just over 224,000 Tennesseans informed the state they are still out of work.

Some 771,000 Tennessee workers have been laid off or furlough since the health crisis began in March.
