TSSAA Boys Tournament Descends on Murfreesboro

MUFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  An estimated 30,000 high school athletes and their supporters are descending on Middle Tennessee this week for the state high-school basketball championships.

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association boys basketball tournament gets underway Wednesday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

The TSSAA held their annual tournament for the girl’s teams this past week. Association spokesman Matthew Gillespie said 21 games were played over a four day period.

“Clay County won their first ever state title in the class “A” championship. Class “AA” was Christ Presbyterian Acadamey, who won at that level," Gillespie said.  "Then in class “AAA” home town Riverdale won their second title in three years. So it was certainly exciting to see that happen.”

Gillespie said the boys teams will play six games per day beginning tomorrow morning, culminating in three championship games on Saturday beginning at two, four and six o’clock at Murphy Center on the MTSU Campus.
