Metro Nashville Council convenes gun violence hearing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Nashville Vice Mayor David Briley will convene a special Metro Council hearing on gun violence Tuesday.

Briley has asked Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson and Metro Health Department Director Dr. Bill Paul to testify on the issue.

WTVF-TV notes that the session was scheduled last month following the shooting death of a California tourist on 4th Avenue near Demonbreun during an apparent robbery attempt.

Nashville has seen a sharp rise in shooting deaths in recent years.

It isn’t clear what the council can do to curb gun violence. State law bars cities from introducing most gun control measures.
