Tennessean Featured in New HBO Documenatry
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- HBO will debut a documentary in Chattanooga Tuesday evening that follows a Tennessee woman through a full year of her life.
The film was produced and directed by Emmy winning documentarians Shari Cookson and Nick Doob. The film is entitled “Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert.”
A press statement says the documentary illuminates “the challenges faced by more than 42 million American women and the 28 million children who depend on them.”
Cookson says she researched America’s working poor prior to shooting the film, but says she was not prepare for the constant stress Katrina Gilbert faced.
“Living with not knowing if she was going to make her necessities, her bills, every month, and what might come along in her life – some small thing that would upset everything.”
Cookson says Shari Gilbert works a full time job in a nursing home making less than $10 an hour, cares for her three children and is also studying toward a college degree.
The documentary debuts Tuesday night in Chattanooga and will air on HBO March 17.
