NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- Gov. Bill Lee is proclaiming the tenth of this month as an official, State of Tennessee day of prayer and fasting.

In a recently released video Gov. Lee asserted his conviction that prayer can strengthen families and communities and build relationships between neighbors.

“Maria and I will take the day to offer prayers of healing, prayers for forgiveness, prayers of thanksgiving, and prayers of hope for our state, and for the 6.7 million who call Tennessee home.”

Lee says the official day was inspired by the Tennesseans he meets at events around the state who tell the governor they’re praying for him and his family.

The governor received both messages of encouragement and strong push back to the Twitter post announcing the proclomation.
