State officials 'reviewing' Trump Administration request for Tenn. driver's license data

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is considering a request from the Trump Administration to supply driver's license data on state residents to the federal Census Bureau.

The Associated Press reports the agency has acknowledged that the request is tied to President Trump’s ongoing effort to determine the number of non-citizens living in the U.S.

A spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Safety tells WMOT the state is “reviewing” the request.

Media outlets are reporting the Census Bureau may also be asking the states for data on individuals receiving federally funded benefits. The Tennessee Secretary of State and Department of Human Resources tell WMOT they have received no such requests as of Wednesday.
