Are multi-million dollar development projects changing Franklin's character?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE)  --  The Nashville Business Journal suggests all those construction cranes dotting Metro’s skyline are overshadowing the remarkable growth underway just down I-65 in Franklin.

Journal Senior Report Adam Sichko notes Franklin approved $535 million worth of commercial construction last year. He says that represents historic development for the second year in a row.

“I believe there’s just about as many commuters who are driving south on I-65 in the morning as are driving north on I-65 in the morning. So that is indicative of the job growth and overall expansion that has happened in Franklin in recent years.”

Sichko says still more multimillion-dollar projects are currently under way or in the planning stages. He ticks off the $105 million mixed use development downtown along with the Ovation, Avalon and Aureum projects at Cool Springs.

Sichko believes these most recent developments will begin to change the character of the city.

“There’s been a number of projects in the pipeline or currently under construction that would inject sort of an urban feel. Sort of a densely packed, mixed use, walkable setting in what has traditionally been the region’s suburban, corporate headquarters hub.”

He doesn’t expect to see Franklin’s growth slow anytime soon, but Adam Sichko does note a growing list of infrastructure challenges for Franklin resulting from the rapid expansion.
