NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- Ken Burn's 16 hour long documentary focusing on Country Music debuts on PBS this Sunday.
The series is getting rave reviews from Marty Stuart, Vince Gill and other Music City stalwarts, but not everyone is a fan.
NPR music critic Ken Tucker is out with a scathing review of the new Burns docuseries. One of Tucker’s complaints is that the series relies on interviews with Country Music stars, rather than music scholars.
“They talk about themselves and lavish praise on each other. Pretty soon, all the back-scratching becomes tiresome.”
Tucker also complains that many of the snippets of Country Music Burns uses are so short viewers don't have time to appreciate their value.
Rolling Stone has a very different take on Burn’s latest. Writer Will Hermez says Country Music “might well be the most ambitious, culturally resonant musicdocumentary ever made.”
