90 Second Spin: Aaron Lee Tasjan releases "Silver Tears"

aaronleetasjan.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CRAIG HAVIGHURST)  --  He used to play guitar for glam punk icons the New York Dolls. But recently he wound up in a suit of mirrors on the stage at AmericanaFest 2016 playing psychedelic country music.

Not out of the ordinary for Aaron Lee Tasjan, one of the most uncategorizable artists to arrive in the recent Great Nashville Migration.

On October 28 Tasjan releases Silver Tears on New West Records.

Where his 2015 album In The Blazes leaned toward neo honky tonk and rockabilly, Silver Tears blows up genre expectations and careens with happy abandon between the lyricism of “Memphis Rain” and overtones of latter day Beatles in “Little Movies”

Tasjan, an Ohio native, was a guitar prodigy who turned down a Berklee College of Music scholarship to move to New York City. He played with Southern rock bar heroes Drivin N Cryin and his own acclaimed band The Madison Square Gardeners before arriving in Nashville in 2013.

Tasjan celebrates the release of Silver Tears this Friday with a day-long pub crawl and a dozen performances inspired by his song “12 Bar Blues” That includes our own Finally Friday live lunch broadcast from the Family Wash.
