Nashville Ballet Celebrates National Dance Day

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Nashville Ballet is celebrating National Dance Day tomorrow by offering several free and open dance classes.

You can try ballet, hip hop, and contemporary dance – along with conditioning dances that include elements of yoga and Pilates.

If you’re a fan of the TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, you can learn a group dance that will be videotaped at the end of the day and uploaded to the show’s website.

Nashville Ballet spokesman Jim Johnson says last year’s Dance Day classes were packed and everyone had a good time.

“What’s great is that you don’t have to have any dance experience whatsoever. You just show up, have fun, laugh at yourself and laugh at your neighbor. It’s just a good time to really explore, maybe, a form of dance that you’re interested in and get to try it out for free.”

Dance Day Celebrations begin at the Ballet’s Martin Center on Redmon Street at 10 a.m. Dancers thirteen and up are welcome on a first-come-first-served basis.
