Tenn. Groups Prepare Disaster Aid for the East Coast

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Volunteer State is readying its response to Hurricane Sandy. Several of the state's disaster response organizations report they're gearing up for what could be a significant disaster.

The Red Cross already has teams from Tennessee headed east.

The Church of Christ Disaster Relief ministry in Nashville says it has three tractor trailers loaded with emergency food boxes ready to roll. It plans to have volunteers pack more boxes beginning Wednesday.

The Franklin based disaster response group Hope Force has an assessment team leaving Monday at noon for a staging sight in Upstate New York. Jack Minton is the Hope Force Co-Founder.

“We are pre-positioning our assets with a response trailer and personnel, some leaving from right here locally and some from Pennsylvania and New York and New Jersey. So we’re trying to get ourselves ready once we have an idea of the extent of the damage and where we should focus.”

Minton says Hope Force assessment team includes flood mitigation specialists.

The Williamson County based organization has about a 1000 trained disaster reservists located here in Tennessee and around the country.
