Ruth. County Woman Finds Gifts for 423 Foster Children

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  More than 400 mid-state foster children will have presents under the tree Christmas morning thanks to the efforts of a Rutherford County woman.

Nancy Woodall launched her “Santa’s Workshop” initiative 26 years ago when she learned the state would not provide gifts for the ten foster children she was caring for in her home at the time.

The program quickly grew into an annual effort to make sure every Rutherford County child in foster care received something for the holidays.

This Christmas Woodall has 423 children on her list. She says she worries every year that there won’t be enough present to go around, but the community always comes through.

“The community is just awesome. It really restores your faith in our community - the faith in just our fellow humans - that they really have a giving, caring spirit for these children.”

Woodall says she communicates directly with every child on the list to find out what they want. Local companies, churches, organizations and individuals make those wishes come true.
