MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Lady Raiders opened Middle Tennessee State basketball conference play with a decisive 86-42 win over North Texas.

The rout puts a victory in the history books for the school's inaugural basketball appearance in Conference U.S.A.

Senior KeKe Stewart was the game standout, coming within one point of the NCAA single-game record for made three-pointers. Stewart scored a career-high 35 points, while shooting 11-of-26 from outside.

MTSU basketball will soon have a refurbished Murphy Center to play its C-USA games in. Athletics spokesman Marco Born says it will be a pretty comprehensive upgrade for the 41 year-old facility.

“Each corner will have upgraded bathrooms, concessions stands and HVAC. We’re gonna get new lighting – what we call ‘arena’ lighting – we’re getting a new roof.”

At one time the Center was Middle Tennessee’s top indoor venue, hosting concerts by Elvis, The Beach Boys, Garth Brooks and other top artists.

It’s still widely used for everything from graduation ceremonies to church services to the annual state high school basketball championships.
